Yen Chow Street Hawker Bazaar, also known as Sham Shui Po Fabric Market or simply "The Bazaar," was once the last remaining fabric hub in Hong Kong. Located at 373 Lai Chi Kok Road in Sham Shui Po, the market was filled with stalls selling a variety of fabrics, from plain cotton and linen to patterned fabrics and even denim, all at affordable prices. Despite the dimly lit environment, the market was a popular destination for fashion design students looking for unique fabrics. The market began attracting fabric vendors in the 1970s and had over 190 stalls at its peak. However, the government stopped issuing hawker licenses, and the market faced multiple government land acquisition controversies. In 2015, fabric vendors and volunteers formed the "Bazaar Concern Group" to advocate for government support. As of 2018, the market still had 50 vendors continuing to operate. Finally, on January 31, 2023, the market completed its historic mission and was cleared by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department staff, closing at 7 p.m.
